As my friend and I plotted out our European wanderings, we planned on heading back to Glasgow after Bratislava. Flights seemed expensive so we searched the Bratislava to anywhere option on Skyscanner and both yelled out "Macedonia!" We had about twelve hours in Skopje before boarding a flight to Budapest and twelve hours in Budapest before returning to our temporary home of Glasgow. Most places in Skopje are named after Mother Theresa or Alexander the Great. We arrived around midnight and stayed with a poet at our Airbnb. She was a fantastic host! In the morning, we wandered the streets of the Turkish market, which made me feel like I was back in Istanbul! I'd love to go back and properly see Macedonia, but we had a flight to catch to Budapest. This was my second time in this wonderful city. We had a nice dinner, serenaded by musicians, and marveling over the fact that we had explored two European capital cities in one day. Since my friend had never been to Budapest, we went on the Budapest Eye to see as much of the city as possible in what little time we had. ![]() It did give a gorgeous view of the parliament and cathedral! The rest of the time in Budapest was spent wandering around the nearly-closed Christmas market and checking out a ruin pub, preserved from the Soviet Era.
