As a follow up from my last post, I can confirm that yes, coffee does taste better when ordered in Icelandic! On my third day of coffee ordering attempts, I finally succeeded (with soy milk, no less!) Now I regularly order coffee in Icelandic, though the follow-up questions the baristas ask in Icelandic are always a struggle. Usually I just answer in English what I presume they're asking in Icelandic. "Takeaway" and "receipt, please," for example. Hopefully I'm actually answering the right questions! My mom came to visit for my birthday and we accidentally found ourselves at the upper deck restaurant in the Perlan. It was raining and windy but we wanted a quick view of the city from the viewing deck and planned to grab dinner from the cafeteria. The cafeteria was closed so we decided to try the fancier restaurant and call it my birthday dinner a night early. I appreciated the four-course vegan menu and the rotating view of the city. When I visited Iceland last February, I took an amazing Northern Lights tour in the Reykjavik Harbour at midnight. I hadn't seen the Northern Lights since I've moved here, but they made an appearance on my birthday! The boat tours in the harbour are great because they take passengers away from the light pollution of the city and travel around to the best viewing areas. (Photo provided by Special Tours)
