Impulsive travelling is definitely a part of my nature and it seems to be spreading to my mom as well! We decided to take a quick trip to Florida for a few days. Longtime visitors of Sanibel Island and Ft. Myer's beach, we decided to continue our exploration of Florida's Gulf Coast by spending a few days at Treasure Island. Our first day at the beach was also the day of some of the worst weather Florida has received this winter. At first, we thought the forecast was wrong, as the day started off beautifully. But then, ominous storm clouds lurked on the horizon and the wind picked up. There were riptide warnings so it was too dangerous to go in the ocean, but luckily our hotel had a heated pool and hot tub. Despite some strong winds and rain that made the hot tub look like a whirlpool, we figured it was alright to hang out in there. Then, someone on the second floor yelled down, "We're under a tornado warning!" So we got out of the hot tub and waited out the storm...for the entire rest of the day! Even though we didn't have the best weather, Treasure Island has some of that "Old Florida" charm and some gorgeous beaches!

Shaping and dwarfing are accomplished through a few basic but precise techniques. The small size of the tree and the dwarfing of foliage are maintained through a consistent regimen of pruning of both the leaves and the roots. Various methods must be employed, as each species of tree exhibits different budding behavior. Additionally, some pruning must be done seasonally, as most trees require a dormancy period and do not grow roots or leaves at that time; improper pruning can weaken or kill the tree.
